Natural Laxatives

We all experience occasional constipation, well, not me, but a lot of other people do. Hopefully, these supplements can get you back on track. This is not a complete list, but it will get you started. The most common are:

apple pectin- water soluble fiber and helps maintain good digestive health

cascara sagrada- a stimulant laxative, go easy on this

magnesium- draws water into the bowels and softens stools, usually takes 600-1200mg

probiotics- the good bacteria that help normalize digestive function

psyllium and flax meal- provide insoluble fiber and bulk when eliminating

senna- another stimulant laxative

triphala- mild laxative and bowel cleanser

You will find these herbs and supplements in most colon cleanses on the market. Most people probably just need a good colon cleanse to take care of constipation issues. It is a way of starting over, so follow up with plenty of fiber, and as always, a balanced diet. ........................Matt

AC$H

I wanted to add a picture for this post about the ACSH, but it wouldn't have been appropriate. That was a really good episode, and a great way to describe it. Or, it's kinda like a bad Saturday Night Live skit. That's what you're constantly up against. Public deception. Sad thing is...for every person that laughs at it, another believes it. ......Matt

New Anti-inflammatory

Curious to see if anybody has tried Curamin? It's a supplement for pain and inflammation created by Terry Lemerond, the founder of Enzymatic Therapy. His new company, EuroPharma, uses a combination of tumeric and boswellia to keep soreness to a minimum. With a money back guarantee, it sound pretty good. Let me know if you have an opinion. I've used his supplements before, and I rate them highly. ..............Matt

Selling Out

Have you ever heard of the American Council for Science and Health? They claim to be a public health advocacy group. That sounds pretty good. ACSH is an independent, non-profit consumer education organization concerned with issues related to food, nutrition, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, lifestyle, the environment and health.

Unfortunately, the organization is just a front for Big Pharma, Big Oil, and the food industry. I went to their website and could not believe what this group supports. I couldn't stop laughing. This corrupt body of physicians and scientists spread misinformation through the media to confuse the public and increase profits for their sponsors.

Here are a couple of things the ACSH endorses. (asbestos isn't that bad, trans fats are OK, high levels of chemicals in children doesn't mean anything, chemicals that cause cancer in animals are fine for humans, and of course, quicker approval of pharmaceutical drugs)

Go to http://www.acsh.org/ to be shocked of the stupidity.

And what about a conflict of interest? There always is. "The American Council for Science and Health has a modest budget derived from a full spectrum of sources, private foundations and corporations." This organization doesn't publish their list of sponsors anymore. They don't want you to know where the corporate funding is coming from. Well, I did a little research and here are a few.

ALCOA Foundation

American Meat Institute

Anheuser-Busch

ADM

Bristol-Myers

Chevron

Coca-Cola

Dow Chemical

Johnson & Johnson

Seeds of Faith

I've been following this story for 4 years. A man named Jason Vale is in prison for selling apricot seeds. This alternative treatment was curing cancer, and the FDA didn't like that. Read his story at http://www.apricotsfromgod.info/ He should be released in January 2008. I'm in the process of contacting his family so that we can hear the injustice that he has endured. ......Matt

Nutrition for your Pet

Your pet needs to eat healthy too. So many pet foods on the market don't meet the nutritional standards that your pet requires. Consider switching to O&M Holistic dog and cat food.

O&M contains top grade ingredients and nutritional supplements for your pet's energy, health, and good looks. I think O&M products are superior to all other pet foods available, and the ingredients contain no common allergens like wheat and corn.

The company guarantees that your pet will show improvement in general health and appearance in 6 weeks, or your money back. My dogs loves it and my cat won't eat anything else. Compare the ingredients with your brand at home. You'll see the difference.

DMSO Reduces Bruising

I dug out some pictures from my DMSO archive to show you some physical evidence once again. The bottom picture is a day after I wrecked my motorcycle. The middle photo is day 3. As you can see, this painful bruise looks like a colorful heart. And yes, I know I could use some sun on my milky, white skin. Anyway, I decided to apply a small amount of DMSO to the left and right side of the bruise just to see what it could do on a 4 day old injury. That is what the top image represents. You can clearly see where the DMSO was applied. Nothing is more effective. Now, I always take DMSO with me when I ride. If it happens again, I'll cover the entire area to prevent any swelling or discoloration. .....Matt

Life Essence

Today, I'm going to give a quick product review. The supplement is Life Essence, "the master multiple" by Pure Essence Labs. It is a powdered multi-vitamin that is packaged in a plastic container holding 261 grams of nutrients and superfoods. A one month supply retails for $35.

The vegetarian formula contains an excellent antioxidant complex, superior tonic herbs and over a 1000 nutrients for complete metabolic support. It really is an outstanding multiple, except for the taste.

Pure Essence Laboratories, Inc. claims that it is the most "delicious nutritional powder ever offered." In my opinion, it's actually the worst thing you'll ever taste. I hate to give a negative product review, but it's amazing how bad the flavor really is. Hideous is the best way to describe it. Have you ever burped causing a little puke to fill your mouth? That's what it tastes like. Just taking the lid off fills the air with the sweet smell of vomit. There isn't enough juice in Florida to dilute this drink.

I was given three of these free by the company rep. I've managed to choke down 1 and a half over the last seven months. I have one unopened left that I may give away as a free gift to an unsuspecting blogger. I would rather drink noni juice all day long.

Note to Pure Essence Labs: Please reformulate, this product is undrinkable. If you have no sense of taste or smell, this multiple is for you. Otherwise, you need a strong stomach. I have to finish this post, I'm starting to gag. .......................Matt

Short Term Herb

Steve, I'm glad to hear that your breathing is better. You may already know this, but goldenseal should only be used for about two weeks. I hope you're taking breaks from it. Goldenseal used to grow wild all over the midwest, but it has almost been picked to extinction. That's why it's more expensive than other herbs. I understand that oregon grape root is very similar to goldenseal. Maybe you can alternate teas.

Yeah, I think the hand sanitizers cause more problems. It dries your hands out, and you absorb the chemicals. ..........Matt

Killing MRSA

The new drug resistant staph infection, methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is killing about 19,000 people every year. Hospitals, poor hygiene, and administering unnecessary antibiotics are all reasons why this superbug has exploded across the United States.

So what do you do? Wash your hands and hope for the best. NO,... the answer is wild oregano oil. It should kill the bacteria quickly. Take it orally, rub it on topically, or put it in a spray bottle and spray it all over your hospital room. Make sure the oregano oil is from the North American Herb and Spice Co. All the other brands are just copies of the original. Protect yourself. ....................Matt

Contest Winner and Cherry Reply

After much debate, regular blogger, Jennifer, won the dessert contest with her chewy granola brownie recipe. Come into the store and ask for Roger. He'll have your gift certificate.

I have heard that tart cherry juice is the best. Brownwood Acres has a good concentrate, or you can purchase the pills. Any brand of cherry juice will do as long as it's 100% cherry juice. Honestly, there can't be much difference between tart, sweet, or black cherrry juice products. Every brand claims that their supplement is the best. It is still a cherry, and it will work to a certain degree. ...............Matt

Here are some Illinois physicians who use alternative treatments for cancer. You can learn about some of these treatments and techniques at http://www.cancure.org/. Getting the Most Out of Your Supplements

How long before I notice any improvement? Should I take this supplement with food, or swallow it on an empty stomach? These are some of the most common questions asked by customers every day. The answer is usually different for each item. Most people think that it takes at least a month before you see any results. However, for the most part, vitamins, minerals, and herbs work very quickly. Here are some examples of the most effective way to benefit from your supplements.

Folic Acid: for cholesterol, high blood pressure, and women's health. It must be on an empty stomach. It's hard to say how quickly it works, but I know it's very effective long term.

Noni Juice: for inflammation relief and immune system enhancement. It must be on an empty stomach. Normally, expect results in 2-4 weeks. It depends on how much you drink. The more you drink, the quicker the results.

Glucosamine: for joint health and damaged cartilage. With food or without, it doesn't make a difference. Unfortunately, you will need to take this for 6-8 weeks. Stick with it, you should have good results.

Tribulus: for libido and testosterone production. With food or without once again. This herb works on the very first day.

Alpha Lipoic Acid: for preventing free radical damage. Probably the best antioxidant you can take. It recycles other antioxidants, so have it with dinner or a multivitamin. Don't waste this supplement by taking it on an empty stomach. Results begin on day 1.

Digestive Enzymes: for breaking down fats, carbs, and protein. Swallow this about 10 minutes before you gulp down your food. Works on the first meal you eat. If you're taking enzymes for inflammation like serrapeptidase, then it must be on an empty stomach. Otherwise, it will digest your food and not the inflammation. You should feel less pain in 2-3 days.

Fenugreek: for increasing breast milk. Best taken with food. Milk production should increase in 2-4 weeks.

Remember, follow the directions on the bottle. Most supplements, including herbs, benefit you health in a short time. Don't forget about the quality of the product. You get what you pay for like anything else. The cheapest supplement is rarely the best. The examples I used relate to the best items available. .......Matt

Lead Lipstick

This is not something I worry about, but my wife does where lipstick. Does anybody want to comment on this? If 65% of all lipstick contains lead, then we should be selling a lot of chelation products this year. Don't worry, though, the FDA is monitoring the situation and protecting the public. Unfortunately, the FDA doesn't regulate the cosmetic industry. Actually, nobody does. That's why health and beauty products are a dumping ground for chemicals. Throw them away and get natural products. ..........Matt

Dangers of H.R.T.

My plan was to write about something different today, but I couldn't pass this up.

Yesterday, a Nevada jury hit Wyeth Pharmaceuticals with a $134.5 million verdict in a three-plaintiff hormone replacement therapy case. According to a story in the Reno Gazette-Journal, the jury found for the plaintiffs on negligence, product defect, and causation, found that Wyeth "concealed a material fact about the safety of the product," and found by clear and convincing evidence that Wyeth "acted with malice or fraud."

The jury has ordered the pharmaceutical giant Wyeth to pay more than $43 million each to three women who claimed in a lawsuit the company's hormone-replacement drugs caused their breast cancer. Premarin, (pregnant mare's urine) an estrogen replacement and Prempro, a combination of estrogen and progestin, were defective products and found Wyeth was negligent in producing, marketing and selling the drugs.

It's interesting that Wyeth actually won a trial in federal court back in February of this year. Lawyers for Wyeth said that a 72 year old woman likely would have developed brest cancer regardless of whether she took Premarin and Prempro because of genetic and health factors, such as weight gain and a history of smoking. What a great company. I love their mission statement the most.

"We bring to the world pharmaceutical and health care products that improve lives and deliver outstanding value to our customers and shareholders. For more than 60 years, Wyeth has been the leader in women's health care."

And guess what...Wyeth Pharmaceuticals is the maker of Dimetapp and Robitussin. These pediatric cold and cough medicines are now being removed from the market because of "dosing errors," and overdoses in children under the age of two.

The FDA recommends that the over the counter medicines should not be used at all for children under the age of two. In fact, for children 2 to under 6 years of age, ask your pediatrician before giving cold and cough products to your children. Hurray for the FDA. They're always on top of their game.

How many people do think this company has killed? How many doctors still prescribe these wonderful medications? I would say..too many to count.

This press release says it all. Wyeth Pharmaceuticals has leading products in the areas of women's health care, infectious disease, gastointestinal health, central nervous system, inflammation, transplantation, hemophilia, oncology, vaccines and nutritional products. Wyeth is one of the world's largest research-driven pharmaceutical and health care products companies. It is a leader in the discovery, development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biotechnology products and non-prescription medicines that improve the quality of life for people worldwide.

I can't say enough bad things about this company. They still have about 5,000 pending lawsuits over their hormone replacement therapy drugs. The good news is Wyeth is just finishing up their phase 3 studies for their new menopause drug bazedoxifene/conjugated estrogen. It should be available in the second quarter of 2008. I'm sure it's super safe and effective. They'll be able to make millions of dollars before the lawsuits start once again.

Menopause is a natural part of life. Herbs and supplements can take care of all your symptoms. They are safe and effective. HRT is never the answer. ......................Matt

Live Cell Analysis

Once a month, we have a specialist come to Naturally Yours to do a live cell analysis for customers. The procedure is very interesting and informative. You can actually view the inside your own body on a video-microscope.

Your living cells are magnified 1000x, so you can see if there are any hidden health risks that decrease energy, add stress, cause inflammation, or increase pain. Find out if your cells are being damaged by toxins, or if your immune system is missing vital nutrients.

A one hour session is $95. Call the store at 692-4448 to set an appointment.

By the way, we are still trying to decide on the best dessert recipe. Some recipes were sent to our Naturally Yours website, and we will announce the winner shortly.

Less Pain and More Sleep with Cherries

OK, first, I would start with a bottle of cherry wine. Drink the whole thing about an hour before you go to bed. Sure, you might be in the bathroom all night, but you won't be able to get out of bed in the morning which will reduce you pain considerably. Sorry, ignore that advice. I was saving that juicy bit of info for my "raging alcoholics" blog.

Jennifer...Try the cherry juice and throw away your computer! Or, only use it when you're posting comments. You really need to do something. You don't have to live with pain.

Steve...Two broken backs? At least you can still walk. And you're right about the Chinese concentrates. The bottles are laced with lead. Expect a recall any day now. ......maybe.

Besides the anti-inflammatory properties, cherries are high in melatonin which promotes sleep. Drink a glass before you go to bed. You should sleep better and wake up in less pain. Don't forget about the cherry softgels and capsules...they might help you even more. If it doesn't work, enzymes, enzymes, enzymes............................................Matt

Cherry Juice for Inflammation

It's too bad you have lower back pain. I hope it's not something you battle every day. Cherry juice might be enough, but it depends on how severe the pain is. You'll want to drink at least one 6-8 oz glass per day. Make sure it is 100% real cherry juice, not a combination of apple, grape, and cherry. It would cost you around $25-$30 a month. I'd give it a shot. Back pain is the worst, and there is no reason to suffer every day. Honestly, you may need something stronger. Actually, a chiropractor could probably take care of it in 2-3 treatments. .......Matt

Another HGH Comment

Still receiving a lot of grief about trying the HGH. There's really nothing to improve on, and there is no sport that is being played. Natural Remedies For Pain

Everybody hurts. We all get a little sore now and then. It doesn't matter if you have arthritis, bad knees, an aching back, or an old football injury. Just make the pain go away. Instead of using prescription drugs, try a couple of these alternative pain medications. I hope this information can help you or somebody you know who suffers every day. Here is a brief, incomplete list of several popular anti-inflammatory supplements that can make getting up in the morning, a little bit easier.

1.) enzymes: Systemic enzymes with pancreatin or bromelain balance the inflammatory response in your body. It is very effective for soft tissue damage and there are no gastrointestinal side effects. A product to consider would be Wobenzyme. Another protease enzyme called serrapeptidase, actually digests inflammation. This one is better for injury related swelling and increased circulation. It has been known to dissolve blood clots, cysts, and arterial plaque. I have used enzymes more than anything else, and I am totally convinced of their healing abilities.

2.) herbs: White willow bark, devil's claw, and tumeric are the most exciting herbs used for pain control. I'm also going to include cherry in this category. White willow bark is the original aspirin. The Bayer Corporation created a synthetic derivative of the herb called acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and mass produced it. Aspirin can cause stomach problems. White willow bark doesn't.

Devil's claw appears to work in the same way as cox-2 anti-inflammatory drugs. Many studies have been published. This is one I found interesting. "A study published in the journal Rheumatology compared a devil's claw extract providing 60 mg of harpagosides a day, and 12.5 mg a day of the anti-inflammatory Vioxx (now off the market) for 6 weeks in 79 patients with an acute exacerbation of low back pain. Devil's claw was as effective as Vioxx in reducing pain."

Tumeric is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. This herb is another cox-2 inhibitor and prevents the production of prostaglandins that cause inflammation and swelling. Tumeric also protects the body from oxidative damage.

Cherry is definitely the most popular. You can take it in pill form or drink the juice. Cherry contains anthocyanins which help sore muscles and support healthy joint function. Most people just drink a glass of cherry juice every day. For serious pain, cherry may not be strong enough. You'll have to decide. I know there are more anti-inflammatory herbs available, but this post would never end. If I forget to mention something, write in and tell me.

3.) misc joint category: I have lumped everything else into this category. These supplements are really more for joint pain. We'll start with avocado/soybean unsaponifiables. ASU improves pain and stiffness associated with arthritis or joint conditions. However, it should work better for osteoarthritis. ASU can also effect estrogen levels, and that is a major concern for some people.

Cetyl myristoleate is a fairly new supplement that has the ability to lubricate the joints. CM8 is not only an anti-inflammatory, but also an immune system modulator. This might interest you if you suffer from an auto-immune disorder.

I'm sure you know about glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM for joint pain. It takes about 6-8 weeks before you notice much improvment, and it doesn't work for everybody. You may want to supplement with enzymes or herbs if the pain is too great. Try combining hyaluronic acid with the glucosamine and chondroitin. HA is part of the synovial fluid, so it cushions the joints.

Like I said, the descriptions and explanations of each supplement were brief. I'm trying to give you a starting point because there are so many to choose from. Figure out what type of inflammation you have, and purchase the product that will work best for you. It is wise to use one supplement at a time. Start combinations after one month.

Wobenzyme, Serratrol, and Zyflamend are all excellent products, but every brand has a good one. Please ask if you can't decide. .......................Matt

HGH Results

After one week on the human growth hormone, my tendinitis is gone in my right elbow. Basically, it was 6 weeks of no treatment and a week or so of the HGH. What's it prove? Absolutely nothing. It may have really healed on its own. Maybe the injury only needed seven weeks this time. Actually, I think the HGH did an amazing job. I have too much experience with this type of inflammation to think that it had no effect on the tendon. The recovery time was cut in half. Another six weeks of nursing an elbow injury would have drove me crazy. I hate to say it, but I wish I would have tried it after the first week. Then, I could really judge the effectiveness more accurately. Something to look forward to next year when I blow out the other elbow again.

Of course, I'm going to finish the bottle which will take another two weeks. I have to see if these wrinkles get any better. ..........Matt

mullein tea solves breathing problems

I am so thankful for Naturally Yours Grocery, Alvita Tea Company, and Back To Eden book by Jethro Kloss.

I recently had severe lung problems, possibly caused by toxic black mold in an office building. I had shortness of breath, where I had to force my lungs to pump. It was extremely frightening. So I did what I always do, I reached for my worn and yellowed copy of Back To Eden, looked up "lung problems" and found many different herbs that are good for this ailment.

God has provided all the medicine we'll ever need in nature. I firmly believe this, from practical experience. Only a few times in my life did I require a pharmaceutical product, and even then, there was probably a better cure in the herb kingdom.

So I discovered that the following herbs are useful for breathing problems, asthma, and lung congestion: mullein, red clover, holy thistle, hyssop, cayenne, lungwort, golden seal, skunk cabbage. There are more, but I can't remember them right now.

Anyway, I went to Naturally Yours and bought hyssop herb and cayenne powder from the bulk container (loose herb), and some Alvita mullein and red clover teas.

Brothers and sisters, I drank a lot of these herbal teas, with honey. My lungs were much better in just one day. Talk about "miracle drugs"! I am continuing to drink these teas. I will put a tablespoon of cayenne powder in some orange juice and slam it down (it's HOT!). I used to use cayenne orange juice as a coffee substitute when I was in college, for late night studying stimulant.

I have been using mullein tea mostly, and I think I can attribute my miraculous cure to this one herb. What's weird is when I found some photos of mullein plant, as shown here, I immediately recognized it. We had a huge mullein plant in our backyard, down by Dry Run Creek, and it was a tough, hardy vegetation.

It was growing all by itself, and I nurtured and protected it, not knowing it was about to become my "doctor" soon.

That weird looking, sturdy, alien-looking plant is what healed my lungs.

Get yourself a good reference book on herbs and natural cures. Naturally Yours has several different books. Then, the next time you have a health problem, please try the natural remedies first. They tend to be far safer, and time-tested by many generations of users.

Golden seal is a bitter, dirt-tasting herbal tea, but it is one of the most powerful germ killers and healing agents in nature.

Each person has to decide: am I going to eat only what pleases my tastebuds and advertising-driven cravings...or am I going to sometimes consume things that are good for my body and mind, even if they may taste icky?

I combine golden seal tea with blueberry tea and orange blossom honey, to try to make it more palatable.

But the main thing is to solve the health problem...naturally, whenever possible.

:^)

Mullein is not native to this country, though it grows wild all over, it was brought here from Eurasia, and the native Americans adapted it.

Quote from Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants by "Wild Man" Steve Brill.

Mullein grows in old fields, roadsides, and disturbed habitats throughout the United States It does well in dry, sandy conditions, especially in alkaline soil, so it’s especially common near the seashore. Archeologists sometimes look for Indian sites where there’s lots of mullein, because the lime from the Indian shell piles increases soil alkalinity, encouraging this plant to proliferate.

Mullein tea provides vitamins B-2, B-5, B-12, and D, choline, hesperidin, PABA, sulfur, magnesium, mucilage, saponins, and other active substances.

People use the tea as a beverage, but it’s best known as one of the safest, most effective herbal cough remedies.

Mullein is an expectorant, and a tonic for the lungs, mucus membranes, and glands. An infusion is good for colds, emphysema, asthma, hay fever, and whooping cough. Strain the infusion through a cloth, or the hairs may get stuck in your throat and make you cough even more.

Laboratory tests have shown that it’s anti-inflammatory, with antibiotic activity, and that it inhibits the tuberculosis bacillus. The Indians smoked dried mullein and coltsfoot cigarettes for asthma and bronchitis, and indications are that it’s effective: I’ve observed it working for bronchitis.

The tea is also an astringent and demulcent. It’s good for diarrhea, and it’s been used in compresses for hemorrhoids since it was recommended by Dioscorides centuries ago. It’s also supposed to help other herbs get absorbed through the skin. Pliny of ancient Rome, Gerard in sixteenth century England, the Delaware Indians, and country folk in the South used the heated leaves in poultices for arthritis.

A tincture of the flowers is used for migraine headaches. An oil extract of the flowers, which contains a bactericide, is used for ear infections, although you should consult with a competent practitioner first, to avoid the possibility of permanent hearing loss if the herb doesn’t work.

Roman ladies used them to dye their hair blonde. Roman soldiers dipped the flowerstalks in tallow to make torches.

Women who were forbidden to use make-up for religious reasons rubbed the rough leaves of this rubrifacient on their cheeks, to create a beautiful red flush. People who spend time in the woods are attracted to mullein’s large, velvety leaves when they run out of toilet paper, again creating a beautiful red flush on their cheeks.

Toxic Gas Theory

I want to say a few things about my son Hayden, and the articles on SIDS. As I said before, I do not support any SIDS organization. I know it's hard for some of you to believe that these organizations would risk children's lives by denying crucial information to parents, but that's exactly what's happening.

If they really wanted to prevent SIDS, each organization would say..... We don't know the cause of SIDS, but until we figure it out, wrap you child's mattress because the results in New Zealand and other countries have been amazing. But instead, they disregard the evidence and hide it from the public.

I called SIDS of Illinois shortly after Hayden's death to ask them why they don't give parents the information about poisonous chemicals in the bedding. The woman I spoke with finally admitted that their organization knew about the toxic gas theory years ago, but refused to tell parents because it could not be proven. As a parent, that's the kind of information I need. If I knew that toxic, flame retardant chemicals could poison a sleeping baby, then maybe Hayden would still be with us.

The medical society will never admit to this as the cause of SIDS, because you would have to place babies in a restricted environment, and physically stand there and watch them die to prove it. No parent would sacrifice their child, and they know that. The theory is ignored.

The manager then asked me if I wanted to volunteer for SIDS of Illinois and do some community outreach. What a joke. Furthermore, she basically said that the results in New Zealand don't apply to the United States. The perfect record of no SIDS deaths on wrapped mattresses isn't worth investigating. She eventually hung up on me . The converstaion was something she wasn't capable of handling.

About six months later, SIDS of Illinois placed an article on their website disputing the theory and calling it an urban myth. Is this the kind of organization you want to protect your children?

Doctors are searching for a medical cause for SIDS, when all along, the answer has been environmental. It is obvious that the medical community and the American Academy of Pediatrics are trying to create a SIDS vaccine. Think about how much money a SIDS vaccine would make. Every parent in America would beg for that vaccination.

Don't give these organizations a dime. SIDS research has all but dried up in New Zealand. That's exactly what will happen in the States if parents take this precaution. The soft research money will disappear and so will their jobs. Once again, money is more important than life.

Let's not forget where the successful "back to sleep" program originated. The "back to sleep" program started in England in 1991 after the theory was revealed to the public. Again, the government and medical community would not admit that this was the cause of SIDS. However, they recommended that parents place babies on their back when sleeping. The SIDS rate dropped drastically.

The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommended this policy in 1992, but the "back to sleep" program wasn't implemented until 1994. This is the only policy that has reduced SIDS related deaths in the United States. It went from about 5,000 to 2,500 deaths per year. If your baby is face down in the poisonous gases, he or she doesn't stand a chance. Roll them over on their back and the survival rate increases. Wrap the mattress, and prevent SIDS.

In reality, SIDS of Illinois and all other SIDS organizations have not produced a single policy that has had a considerable effect on SIDS prevention. .........Matt

Vaccine Exemption

From what I understand, a medical exemption is accepted for school enrollment. It makes it much easier on the parents, but much harder for the doctors. I'm sure the state scrutinizes every medical exemption request, and then investigates the accommodating doctor. Basically, they are scared, and most have probably not even seen the forms.

The other option, and the most popular, is the religious exemption. A nurse gave me all the necessary paperwork. Yes, a nurse. Both will work to get your children in school.

For the parents who insist on vaccinating their children.... wait until your child is 2-3 years old, one shot at a time, space them 3-6 months apart, and videotape everything. ........Matt

Doctor's Appointment

I took the twins to the pediatrician appointment this morning. It took the doctor all of five minutes before she started in with the vaccinations. I told her I wanted a medical exemption from all vaccinations for the girls. I had to repeat that request three times before she acknowledged it. She asked why? I explained to her that my wife and I have already lost a son, and the risk of autism is too great. The pediatrician responded by saying that you don't have to get the MMR vaccine, but she recommends two other vaccines. It was kind of like a cheesy car salesman trying to get one more sale before the end of the month.

I said that I didn't know if it was the MMR, a different vaccination, or a combination of shots in a short amount of time that caused autism. But, I wasn't going to take that chance, and I soon found myself in an autism debate which I was expecting. She made some reference to a CDC study, which of course means nothing. She also stated that there is no scientific proof vaccinations cause autism. You'll get these responses from any doctor. She must learned this argument in medical school, because she has clearly never really investigated anything herself. I guarantee this pediatrician has never talked to a parent whose child developed autism after a vaccination.

I then explained to her that when it comes to believing the pharmaceutical companies and "medical experts", or the parents, .....I go with the parents. She didn't like my answers. My pediatrician really believes that vaccinations have nothing to do with autism. She claims that the reason why autism has increased drastically to 1 in 150 is because they diagnose it sooner. Can you believe that? Instead of 1in 10,000 autism cases a few years ago, it was actually 1in 150 all along. They just understand the symptoms better, now. That means as technology gets better, doctors will diagnose even more children with autism. Soon, it will be 1 in 50 because it has always been that way.

I was insulted, but even more embarrassed for her. So we agreed to disagree. But it was clear to me that parents don't matter. Our concerns and opinions are silly. Your perfect, healthy child that changed after a vaccine is a coincidence. Remember, your child was born that way. There was nothing you could do about it. Now, when would you like to set up the next round of vaccinations?

So, the answer to my question about a medical exemption was "no". Death of a sibling is not good enough. It's business as usual. You know, the world is full of cowards and sell outs. Instead of doing the right thing, people bury their heads in the sand. Don't let these doctors pressure you into risking your child's health. Believe the parents. ......................Matt
